The T20 World Cup in the West Indies has just ended and just like 50-over format World Cup that was held here in 2007, the entire tournament was a dampener in terms of stadium spectator volumes. This has become an increasingly worrying trend ever since the native, West Indian side started sliding after their 1996 Frank-Worrell Trophy loss to the Australians. Ever since that debacle happened, except for the test matches wherein Brian Lara was involved, the stadium volumes have been dwindling and the authorities including the WICB have not done anything constructive to resolve it. U are still thinking whether it is good or not? It is awful..I would say that even Zimbabwe would make for a much better venue
ReplyDeleteI think u two are both being a bit too harsh...just recall that we don't too many good cricketing venues..so discriminating what we do have at the moment won't do any favors to anybody.
ReplyDeletehey cguy, u have totally lost the point: we are not talking about whether it is good to discriminate or not, we are just saying that the situation needs to be addressed sooner or later, since the problem is very obvious

ReplyDeleteU are right about the fact that the west indies is not a global venue by any means. further, the facilities too here reportedly aren't the greatest and to top it all, the spectator interest is declining every season. spot on!!
ReplyDeleteJust to update you guys, they have arranged a few T20 matches in the US and the response has been great so far..I seriously believe that the East Coast could be the next Sharjah of cricket...by the way, what happened to Sharjah, does it even exist any more?
ReplyDeleteone factor that everybody seems to have forgotten is that the Caribbean nations are still quite divided over representing themselves individually at the international level and thus, there is quite a bit of animosity among the existing team members...so dat raises questions about the west indies team too...why cannot dis team be divided into smaller island teams??
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe that somebody wud actually propose the idea of the West Indian team being divided...they are already quite pedestrian and if they are split up we would have about 5 - 6 very mediocre, smaller teams in international cricket...u are kidding roohan, right?
